It is understood that certain geometries and colors (Yantras) correspond with the energies of the planets "inside out" as well as Mantras (sound frequencies) and Gemstones.

Yantras are tools to enhance a certain frequency in our spaces and lives.

Here is what the Vedic Astrologer Dr. David Frawley has to say about the Sun. This is an extract of his book the Astrology of the Seers.

 The Sun shows the kinds of authority and the values that shape our lives. The Sun represents the king, the president or political leader. It can indicate the government in general and whatever favors or promotions come through it. It represents law and order on lower or higher levels, rule and reason. The Sun can represent spiritual authority and, along with Jupiter, can help us understand the nature of the guru or the spiritual teaching we are most likely to follow. It shows our guiding light, principles, values and precepts. The inner purpose of the Sun in the chart is to aid in our transcendence. It takes us beyond outer things, negating their limitation. It may raise us to a high level in life, but it will push us inwardly beyond that. It operates to negate all things into the self. The Sun tends to deny the ordinary activities of life, but only to command the extraordinary, the highest and the best. The Sun gives the power of independence, the capacity to become a value or a light unto ourselves. It promotes the growth of intelligence. While destructive of form and expression, it elevates the being and the intrinsic worth of things. It does not always give abundance, but it does give quality. It gives power, fame, mastery and glory, but not always wealth or emotional happiness. In Sanskrit, there are innumerable names for the Sun. Most commonly he is called Surya, which means the father, progenitor, or enlivener, the source of energy, motivation and inspiration, like the Greek Sun god Apollo. He is also called Savitar, which has a similar meaning and further indicates the Divine will in creation.

It is a nice and appropriate way to install a Yantra with a little ceremony onering the divine energy it represents. this usually is done with chanting the one of the affiliate Mantras while meditating with calm and receptive mind and heart on the geometry and especially the central point of Light (Bindu):

Sum is one of the  Bija, root mantras of the Sun. You will find OM SUM in-cut and backlit in the ancient Sanskrit language  around the 4 sides of the Yantra.
